SOLUTIONS FOR FAST FASHION.

So in my last blog I talked about some problems related to fast fashion. But what about the solutions? Do we ever think about  it? I guess NO. So in this blog I am going to make you guys aware of some measures which can be adopted for the remedies of FAST FASHION.
SOME OF THE BRANDS THAT USES THE 3RS (REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE)

RE;CODE

RE;CODE is Korea's leading fashion brand specialized in upcycling fashion. It was launched in 2012 with the slogan 'THIS IS NOT JUST FASHION'. It adds creative ideas to discarded inventory to create re (RE) and spreads a sustainable culture (CODE) and develop various projects through collaboration.

The brand introduces conscientious fashion with innovative solution, which refers to upcycling dead stock for new use. RE;CODE breaks fashion stereotypes and encourages the world to join the movement for the environment and a sustainable society.

The brand works with a broad range of materials, and creates jackets, bags and tops for men and women from military fabrics, tents, uniforms and parachutes, as well as fashioning used car air bags into purses, totes and shirts. Each item in the collection has a story, and creates a new culture of value in place of waste.

ECOALF

The ECOALF Foundation is a non-profit organization whose main objective is to promote the recovery of waste in order to recycle it and avoid its harmful impact on the environment, through the development and application of new scientific and technological knowledge. ECOALF removes waste from the sea and transforms it into new materials to create a selection of wearable goods, including footwear and clothes.
The ECOALF Foundation collaborates with local partners to carry out Upcycling the Oceans in Spain, Greece, Italy and Thailand, likewise it is working on its implementation in other parts of the world. It also collaborates on other projects in the fields of waste management, environmental awareness or research and development with institutions with which it shares common values and objectives. Most recently ECOALF has collaborated with companies such as Apple, Swatch, Coolhunting, Coca-Cola and Will.i.am, and Barneys New York.

Ecoalf uses the recycled plastic trash collected from the oceans to make 100% recycled plastic materials to produce high-quality fashion.Ecoalf has recovered a total of 600 tonnes of waste from the bottom of the oceans, recycling 1 ton of plastic every day. After collecting the bottles, they refine the recycled plastic and turn it into chips. Then, the chips are heated and pulled apart into fibres and spun into yarn. Finally, EcoALF fibre. The range of goods available is jackets, waistcoats, handbags, and shoes.  Current initiatives operate to manufacture discarded fishing nets, PET plastic bottles, used tyres, coffee, post industrial cottons and wool into high quality yarns and components for clothing, accessories and footwear. Upcycling the Oceans has been replicated in Thailand and continues to expand throughout the Mediterranean: Greece, Italy, France etc.

ZERO WASTE DANIEL

Zero Waste Daniel is a New York based clothing designer and zero-waste lifestyle pioneer who uses pre-consumer waste sourced from New York City’s garment industry, as well as other hard-to-recycle materials, to create his line of genderless clothing and accessories that send nothing to landfills. At ZWD, fabric waste is kept at zero. Pattern making techniques, appliqués, tiled mosaics and embellishments absorb one hundred percent of the textile goods that are brought into the make / shop.

Zero waste is the goal of both the garments we make and the studio we create in. The use recycled and recyclable materials in our shipping, packaging and office materials as well as a zero waste mind set in everyday company life by eliminating trash wherever possible. They are the first company making 100% zero waste clothes. Daniel's reroll technique, they make unique fashion pieces by applying the art of sewing to the fashion industry’s waste. By reimagining sewing and having also reinvented fabric. They provide zero waste ReRoll fabrics to companies and individuals who are looking for innovation and sustainability, as well as utilizing them in the production of our direct to consumer garments. Zero Waste Daniel began designing unisex basics such as hoodies, t-shirts, sweatpants in 2016. All of his products are made and designed in-house using pre-consumer textile waste obtained from nearby production factories and cutting room scraps. His items are all unique and no two items are the same. He hand makes each clothing piece using several different small pieces of textile to create a single large piece of fabric. He also tries to reduce trash as much as possible by bringing his own tote bag stuffed with reusable utensils, mason jars and cloth napkins. They use patchwork-style techniques which successfully use up small scraps of fabric. They have successfully used the technique in a contemporary, fun way, including using the strengths of the pieced nature of the work in their creations to create imagery.

APART FROM THE BRANDS THERE ARE SOME MORE WAYS BY WHICH WE CAN SOLVE THE PROBLEMS OF FAST FASHION:

  • REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE CLOTHES.
  • BUY LESS BUY BETTER.
  • USE NATURAL FIBRES WHICH CONSUMES LESS WATER FOR PRODUCTION.
  • RENT CLOTHES.
SOME OF THE NATURAL FIBRES THAT MAY ALSO HELP ARE:

HEMP:

Hemp Fabric Lab is a one stop shop for innovators and creators to buy sustainable fabrics right from the comfort of home. Our core material is HEMP - an extremely durable and versatile fabric that uses 50% less water as compared to cotton. We have stringent checks in place to ensure that our fabrics are produced ethically and are of the highest quality. So sit back and relax because designing just became a whole lot easier.

LINEN:

Linen is one of the strongest and most durable natural fibers – the ancient Egyptians used linen for mummification, and the US uses it blended with cotton for dollar bills. Linen fabric is usually a low-thread count even-weave cloth or sometimes knit.

Linen is very strong and absorbent and dries faster than cotton. Because of these properties, linen is comfortable to wear in hot weather and is valued for use in garments.

Here I am sharing a video which will make you guys more clear about what's happening and what should be the solution to follow:
