SOLUTIONS FOR FAST FASHION.
So in my last blog I talked about some problems related to fast fashion. But what about the solutions? Do we ever think about it? I guess NO. So in this blog I am going to make you guys aware of some measures which can be adopted for the remedies of FAST FASHION.
SOME OF THE BRANDS THAT USES THE 3RS (REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE)
RE;CODE
RE;CODE is Korea's leading fashion brand
specialized in upcycling fashion. It was launched in 2012 with the slogan 'THIS IS NOT JUST FASHION'. It adds
creative ideas to discarded inventory to create re (RE) and spreads a
sustainable culture (CODE) and develop various projects through collaboration.
The brand introduces conscientious fashion with innovative solution, which refers to upcycling dead stock for new use. RE;CODE breaks fashion stereotypes and encourages the world to join the movement for the environment and a sustainable society.
The
brand works with a broad range of materials, and creates jackets, bags and tops
for men and women from military fabrics, tents, uniforms and parachutes, as
well as fashioning used car air bags into purses, totes and shirts. Each item
in the collection has a story, and creates a new culture of value in place of waste.
ECOALF
The ECOALF
Foundation is a non-profit organization whose main objective is to promote the
recovery of waste in order to recycle it and avoid its harmful impact on the
environment, through the development and application of new scientific and
technological knowledge. ECOALF removes waste from the sea and transforms it
into new materials to create a selection of wearable goods, including footwear
and clothes.
The ECOALF
Foundation collaborates with local partners to carry out Upcycling the Oceans
in Spain, Greece, Italy and Thailand, likewise it is working on its
implementation in other parts of the world. It also collaborates on other
projects in the fields of waste management, environmental awareness or research
and development with institutions with which it shares common values and
objectives. Most recently ECOALF has collaborated with companies such as Apple,
Swatch, Coolhunting, Coca-Cola and Will.i.am, and Barneys New York.
Ecoalf uses the recycled plastic trash collected from the oceans to make 100% recycled plastic materials to produce high-quality fashion.Ecoalf has recovered a total of 600 tonnes of waste from the bottom of the oceans, recycling 1 ton of plastic every day. After collecting the bottles, they refine the recycled plastic and turn it into chips. Then, the chips are heated and pulled apart into fibres and spun into yarn. Finally, EcoALF fibre. The range of goods available is jackets, waistcoats, handbags, and shoes. Current initiatives operate to manufacture discarded fishing nets, PET plastic bottles, used tyres, coffee, post industrial cottons and wool into high quality yarns and components for clothing, accessories and footwear. Upcycling the Oceans has been replicated in Thailand and continues to expand throughout the Mediterranean: Greece, Italy, France etc.
